Frizz… it happens, right?

But it doesn’t have too! Not everyone runs into the same issues all of the time. Some people deal with it on the regular, while some people are stuck with the frustration of unpredictability. There are several environmental factors that come into play when getting to the bottom of this issue. The following are some of our best tips to help you keep the fluff at bay.

1.  Be Careful Where You Lay Your Head

Getting enough shut eye is important to your brain and body function, but it can effect your hair as well. How you might be asking yourself?  Your cotton pillowcase may be the reason you wake up with frizzy hair in the morning. When you are tossing and turning throughout the night getting your full 8 hours, you are creating constant friction between your hair and your pillowcase. This friction can lead to breakage and damage your strands do to vigorous rubbing. Your best bet would be to invest in a silk pillowcase, this creates more “slip” for your hair and subsequently less damage over time.

2. Brushes Are a Girls Best Friend.

Have you been using that same chewed up hair brush for years? It might not be something that you put much thought into, but you probably should. Getting the best brush for your hair type and styling routine is important to the longterm health of your tresses. The right kind of brush can help to combat frizziness as well, brushes that have natural boar bristles are most often recommended for those who are prone to frizz due to them helping to distribute the scalps natural oils down the length of the hair shaft. It might be time to upgrade your current brush!

3. You Better Watch Those Hot Tools.

Now that the pandemic is starting to come to a close and everyones lives are beginning to resemble normalcy, there are more occasions to go out and get dressed up. As excited as we are about this, it also means that those blow driers, curling and flat irons that have been stowed away in your bathroom drawer are making a comeback, big time. Heat is one of the biggest culprits in robbing out hair of moisture, causing frizz and breakage. Be sure to keep your tools on a lower setting, no more than 325 degrees for most people. As always, if you must heat style, please remember to use a thermal protectant. We love the KEVIN.MURPHY line since there are so many options

4. Don’t Treat Your Strands Like Spaghetti!

We all know that at the end of a long hard day there is little better than taking a nice, long, hot shower to relax. Before you lean that head of yours back into the rush of warm water from the shower, take pause. Super hot water may feel great, but it is wreaking havoc on your hair and skin. Scorching hot water strips the hair of its natural oils, which removes the natural moisture. If your hair isn’t properly hydrated, you will undoubtably will have issues with frizziness.

5. Traditional Towel Troubles

That trusty old bathroom towel you use to dry your body after a shower should not be the same towel you dry your hair with. We’ve all done it here and there in a pinch, so don’t beat yourself up over it! Wet hair tends to be much more fragile than when it is dry, so using a traditional terry cloth towel to roughly dry your hair is going to cause breakage over time, and frizz in the short term. Your best option to protect your hair while removing excess moisture? Reach for a microfiber towel, or an old cotton t-shirt to get that water out.

6. Wrong Products, Wrong Results

Using the right haircare products for your specific needs is of most importance. If you aren’t using the correct products, your hair won’t be getting the targeted care it needs and sometimes can even be worse for wear. While this may sound slightly dramatic, it’s unfortunately the truth. Make sure you’re aware of your hair’s needs, and if you aren’t ask your stylist for suggestions! That’s what we are here for!
